About
A personal archive preserving traces of everyday lives.
Laojiu Mopian brings together old photographs, letters, postcards and objects selected for public display. Everything shown is a screened, compressed and, where necessary, redacted publication copy, rather than an archival master.
What we collect
The collection includes photographs, postcards, letters, identification documents, old cards, diaries, notebooks and other objects reflecting everyday life. A person need not be famous, and a record need not relate to a major event.
Only records cleared for publication are displayed. Rarity does not justify relaxing publication requirements for material that has not been catalogued or has unresolved privacy concerns.
How we catalogue
Every record has a permanent identifier. Later changes to its type, date or subject update the description while preserving that identifier, so the same physical object remains traceable.
Public pages use clear descriptions in the selected language. Internal classification and technical codes are omitted. A record's permanent identifier can be copied from the citation section.
Confirmed facts, tentative interpretations and unknown information are distinguished wherever possible. Without sufficient evidence, we retain the original wording or mark information as unknown. We do not infer private individuals' identities from faces, addresses or backgrounds.
Record pages show their last update date. Research status and evidence grades remain internal working information. New evidence may lead to revisions, while permanent identifiers and historical records are retained.
Only copies are public
The website uses screened, compressed and, where necessary, redacted publication copies. Original scans, high-resolution masters and sensitive material do not enter the public website directly.
Public access does not imply permission to copy, distribute or use material commercially. Unless a record explicitly states otherwise, viewing it is not an unrestricted licence.
Likes do not require an account or cookies. To prevent duplicate counts, the server stores only a one-way verification digest generated with a separate key, rather than the original IP address. The digest is not used to identify visitors. Visitors sharing a public network address may count as one.
Revisions, corrections and removal
Use the title and permanent identifier when checking a record. Revisions update public descriptions without overwriting archival masters. Published versions are retained locally for traceability.
There are no public comments. Apart from the minimal verification digest needed for likes, interaction features do not build visitor profiles. A public contact email appears only when the owner configures a real address.
Please provide the record identifier, page address, the information to be checked and supporting evidence. Do not include full identification numbers, precise private addresses, clear signatures or other highly sensitive information in your initial contact.
Keep the traces of lives that might otherwise disappear.
